Ben Jarrell 12" Vinyl "Troubled Times" w/ download card (Country Roots Records)
From its galloping, murder ballad opening statement, to its acid country closing remarks, Troubled Times is a former street punk’s airtight and unpredictable argument for the future of country rock ‘n’ roll.
Alabama native Ben Jarrell assembled an all-star Nashville band for his 10-song debut album, including: Bassist Kevin Black (Margo Price, Sturgill Simpson), drummer Taylor Powell (Nikki Lane), and the father/son team of pedal steel guru Mike Daly (Hank Williams, Jr.) and guitarist Steve Daly (Alex Williams). Jarrell guided this gang through the many personal and musical switchbacks which led him to Music City two years ago with just $300 in his pocket.
With songs like the painfully intimate “Daddy’s Prison Radio,” written while Jarrell’s truck-driving, meth-cooking father was being sentenced to prison; the Jerry Reed-inspired “Black Helicopters,” written from the perspective of a paranoid doomsday prepper that Jarrell spent time with on a Florida compound; and the good ol’ weed-smokin’ number, “Colorado Bound”; the listener is kept hanging on for the ride with shifting points of view, and stylistic nods to artists as varied as Kris Kristofferson and Black Sabbath.
"Troubled Times" is the first release from Country Roots Records, the newest family member of Muddy Roots Music Recordings. 180 gram vinyl was recorded at Southern Ground Studios in Nashville, TN and includes a digital download card.
